(THE STUDY OF ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION CONDITION AND ITS MANAGEMENT ON HOSPITAL BUILDING)

ABSTRACT

Hospital as a means of public health service, can be a spot in which from its daily routine activity produce polluted material that can harm environment. Thus, in order to fulfill proper environmental health on a hospital building, the hospital should provide general support that is sanitation system including its infrastructures.

The aim of this study is to know the hospital environmental sanitation condition an its management by observing few key sanitation parameters such as water condition, waste water and solid waste management. The study is conducted both in private hospitals and public hospital, i.e. Dr. Kariadi Hospital as the public hospital, Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital and St. Elizabeth Hospital as the private hospitals.

The results shows that the condition of clean water supply in the three hospitals observed especially the quality of clean water, based on tested parameters, was still in the range of standard value by The Decree of Health Ministry of Republic Indonesia No. 907/Menkes/SK/VII/2002. In general, the system of solid waste management from all of the three hospitals have separated non medical and poisonous medical waste in each floor. While non medical solid waste is brought to managed by being burned in incinerator device. The results of the waste waste testing displayed few parameters have exceeded the effluent standard value belonging to Decree of Central Java Government Province No. 10 tahun 2004. In Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital show that almost all of the parameters such as pH, BOD, COD, ammonium, phospat have exceeded the effluent standard value, whereas in the Anna Building St. Elizabeth Hospital was only ammonium parameter that exceeded from effluent standard value and then the Garuda Pavilion Dr. Kariadi Hospital only ammonium and phospat parameters were exceeded from effluent standard value.
